Goodyear’s sleek new concept tire developed for Lexus made its debut Friday at the Paris Motor Show 2016.

The Lexus UX concept car unveiled at the show is outfitted with the state-of-the art tire, dubbed Urban CrossOver.

In a news release, Goodyear said it approached the design using Lexus’ inside-out philosophy, making internal elements blend with the external ones. Following this principle, the spokes of the rim flow smoothly into the sidewall design of the tire.

Design work was carried out at Goodyear’s two Innovation Centers in Akron and Colmar-Berg, Luxembourg.

The design was created using Goodyear’s high-tech laser carving technique and employs the tire maker’s Sound Comfort Technology, which helps to reduce noise in the vehicle’s cabin.

A chip inside the tire sends vital information to the car’s on-board computer, enhancing the stability and performance of the car when cornering and braking. This system also sends tire pressure and temperature information to the vehicle’s computer.

The tire includes Goodyear’s Run On Flat Technology, which incorporates reinforced sidewalls that can properly carry the weight of a car for about 50 miles after a puncture with complete loss of air pressure.

“Our designers succeeded in developing a tire that is consistent with the car’s design philosophy,” said David Anckaert, a Goodyear product development director.
