The Autism Society of Greater Akron will host its fifth autism walk and race at 9 a.m. June 20 at Lock 3 Park in downtown Akron.

The event raises awareness and funds to support local programs for individuals with autism and their families.

“This is our signature fundraising and autism awareness event and attracts not only people living with autism, but a community of teachers, therapy providers, friends, neighbors and those who just want to support a great cause,” Laurie Cramer, executive director of the Autism Society of Greater Akron, said in a statement. “Autism is the fastest growing developmental disability, affecting one in 68 children born today. Autism doesn’t just impact the child, it impacts the entire family. A participant once told us that the event is like a giant group hug. It means a lot to our families to see so much support.”

The walk is free, but the 5K requires a $30 registration fee ($35 the day of the event).
