A training center established by the youngest Olympic gold medalist in U.S. gymnastics history will celebrate its grand opening Wednesday evening.

The Dominique Moceanu Gymnastics Center at 734 N. Progress Drive in Medina will offer instruction, camps and yoga in a family-themed atmosphere, according to the center’s website.

Moceanu, a Cleveland native, was 14 when she was a member of the U.S. women’s gymnastics squad that won the team competition at the 1996 Atlanta Games.

Since retiring from competition, she earned a business management degree from John Carroll University, became involved in coaching and has been a vocal advocate for a safer, abuse-free environment in gymnastics. She oversaw every aspect of the new gym, with a focus on health, safety and celebration of the sport.

The center’s normal operating hours will be 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and closed Sundays except for special events.
