GREEN: The Akron-Canton Airport has broken its previous passenger record, topping 158,000 travelers in May.

The airport also says the number of travelers flying to and from the airport increased 12 percent the first five months of this year compared to the same time period in 2011.

The Repository newspaper reports that May’s passenger totals hit 158,334, breaking the previous record of 155,000 in July 2011.

In January, the airport cut the ribbon on an expanded security checkpoint with four times more room to screen passengers.
