The U.S. Marshals Service is warning the public of a telephone scam alleging an active federal arrest warrant or bench warrant has been issued and demanding immediate payment.
This scam is similar to others that utilize a fear tactic. Similarly, the IRS and other governmental agencies do not call consumers to demand payment.

The U.S. Marshal's Office has received several reports of the scam, coming from various area codes, including the Cleveland area. The agency is investigating the case as a federal impersonation of an officer.
Authorities remind consumers not to divulge personal or financial information to unknown callers.
Anyone contacted by the scam is encouraged to call 866-4-WANTED or 216-522-2150.
