City, county and school district swap would bring jobs to downtown, 90 new homes to West Akron. Reported by Doug Livingston. The city, county and school district plan to swap public parking lots, school sites and infrastructure work to boost downtown business and set the stage for Akron’s largest new private housing development in decades. The deal brings together Akron city and Summit County governments, which will trade properties with Akron Public Schools to fill empty downtown buildings and knock down Perkins Middle School to make room for a 90-home development in West Akron.
