Federal consumer watchdog looking into Signet Jewelers in-store credit practices. Reported by the Beacon Journal and Ohio dot com. Signet Jewelers revealed in a regulatory filing late last week that the federal government is considering legal action against the national jewelry retailer over its in-store credit practices. The company filing also said that the attorney general for the state of New York is investigating similar issues. Signet said in the filing it believes the claims lack merit, that it has been behaving lawfully, and that it is cooperating fully with federal and state investigators. Signet, which has its headquarters in Akron, owns Kay, Jared, Zales, Piercing Pagoda and other retail brands.
