The Applebee's in Wadsworth, located at 1020 High St., will host "Breakfast with Santa," a holiday event to benefit the local Salvation Army, from 8:30-10 a.m. on Saturday.

Tickets for the event can be purchased at the Army's headquarters, 527 College St., until 6 p.m. on Friday. A few tickets may be available at the door, according to Maj. Debbie Grace.

Grace said the breakfast is a "wonderful collaboration" between Applebee's and the Salvation Army. She noted Applebee's provides the food and prepares it and volunteers from the Salvation Army help at the event.

George Palmer, manager of the Wadsworth Applebee's, said the breakfast will include eggs, pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee, and he noted the restaurant is preparing for up to 150 people.

Grace said each child will receive a prize through the number on the ticket the child receives. Each child will also be able to sit on Santa's lap to have a photo taken, Grace added.

According to Grace, all proceeds from the event will go into the Salvation Army's general fund, from which Christmas distributions will be made. Grace added that this the seventh annual breakfast hosted by Applebee's.

Grace said the Salvation Army aided 350 families in its Christmas distribution last year and expects to help that many this year. She said the Adopt-a-Family distribution will be Dec. 9 and the general distribution, Dec. 21.

Other fund raising activities for the Salvation Army include the Red Kettle Drive" and the Angel Trees. The trees are distributed in at least 12 locations throughout Wadsworth. On the trees are paper angels, each with the name of a child on it and presents suitable for each child. People who want to help in the Angel Tree program should pick one or more angels from the tree and purchase gifts for each child. They then return the gifts to the place where the tree is located.
