Akron Civic Theatre — Will hold auditions for the 2016 All-City Musical from 4:30-8:30 p.m. Feb 21 and 6-10 p.m. Feb. 22 at the Akron Civic Theatre, 182 S. Main St. Auditions are open to current students, ages 14-18, grades 9-12 of Summit County public and private high schools and age appropriate home-schooled students. Akron Pops Orchestra — Seeking musicians, especially strings and keyboards, for the volunteer orchestra. Rehearsals are 7:30 p.m. Thursdays at the Quirk Cultural Center, 1201 Grant Ave., Cuyahoga Falls. Most concerts are on Thursday evenings, with a few weekend concerts. Cleveland Philharmonic Orchestra — Auditions for regular and substitute players in the upcoming 2015/2016 concert season are being held. There are openings for strings (violin, viola, and cello), substitute brass, and percussion. Audition requirements are one solo piece and one orchestral excerpt of your choice. The orchestra performs four series of two concerts each year at Cuyahoga Community College and at other venues in the Greater Cleveland area. Cuyahoga Falls Community Band — The band is seeking new musicians, with emphasis on clarinet, saxophone, euphonium and percussion players. Weekly rehearsals are held 7-8:30 p.m. Mondays throughout the year in the third floor auditorium of the Quirk Cultural Center, 1201 Grant Ave., Cuyahoga Falls. Dobama Theatre — Is now accepting submissions from Cuyahoga County students in grades 1-12 for the 38th Annual Marilyn Bianchi Kids’ Playwriting Festival. Plays must be the original work of the student submitting them. The play can be in any genre: comedy, drama, mystery, fantasy or wherever the imagination leads the playwright. Plays written by 1-6 graders should be no longer than 10 minutes when read aloud. Plays written by 7-12 graders should be no longer than 20 minutes when read aloud. Submission deadline is March 1. Great Lakes Theater — Seeking non-Equity Actor/Musicians of all cultures and backgrounds for the company’s production of Love’s Labour’s Lost. Actors must be able to proficiently play at least one of the following instruments: mandolin, violin, guitar, upright bass, or percussion. Auditions will be held by invitation in early February. Hudson Community Chorus — Rehearsals are at 7 p.m. Tuesdays at First Congregational Church, 47 Aurora St., Hudson. The chorus is open to adult singers of all ages and abilities and is accepting new singers for its spring season. No audition needed. Fee for the spring season is $25. Laurel Lake Encore Chorale — Seeking adults age 55 and older to join the 50-member chorale that performs a large range of musical styles. Participation is open to the public. Master Singers Choral of Northeast Ohio — Any interested area singers age 18 or older, are invited to attend a rehearsal to observe the group in action. No auditions are required to join but a strong commitment to attend rehearsals and perform in three annually scheduled concerts are encouraged. No fees required to join, but there is minimal fee for sheet music. Rehearsals are held 7:30-9 p.m. Mondays at the Church of New Hope, 4415 Darrow Road, Stow. Metro Parks Ensemble — The all-volunteer group is seeking a drummer and a French horn player to practice and perform Tuesday nights. Interested musicians must have their own instruments, be able to read music and pass a background check. Tuesday Musical Association — Is accepting on-line application through Monday for its 2016 Scholarship Competition. The competition will take place March 19 at The University of Akron and is open to college and university students who are Ohio residents or whose music teachers are Ohio residents. Categories include music education, brass, organ, piano, strings, voice, woodwinds and, new this year, classical guitar. Weathervane Playhouse — Is accepting submissions to its annual 10-minute play festival. The deadline for entries is midnight on May 13. Play finalists will be announced on May 27. Each of the eight finalists will receive a full production of his or her play — performed by volunteer actors — and two complimentary tickets to 8x10 TheatreFest. All applicants will receive acknowledgment of receipt of submissions and administrative fee, notification of eight finalist plays, preceding TheatreFest and notification of winners, following the conclusion of TheatreFest.
