Rockne’s restaurant is celebrating its 25th anniversary at 7 Merriman Road, and owners Chris and Sandy Hamad will be turning back the clock on their menu and prices for a celebration Monday through March 9.

Chris Hamad was hired to manage the original Rockne’s on Hudson Drive in Cuyahoga Falls, and moved to help open the Merriman Road location. He eventually bought out all other stakeholders to become the location’s sole owner.

Hamad, his wife, six children and mother all help to run the restaurant, which is the oldest Rockne’s since the closing of the Hudson Drive location. There are 11 restaurants in the chain.

To celebrate, Hamad is offering four dine-in sandwiches that haven’t appeared on the menu in a while, at 1987 prices ranging from $4.25 to $4.95: the Cheese Pleaser, the Breaded Eggplant, the Beer Club and the El Cid. The restaurant’s signature french fries will be just $1, and its gourmet fries — served with a bottle of Dom Perignon — will be $150.

Hamad said the idea of celebrating with Dom Perignon and some fries became a house tradition years ago, and came to be known as “gourmet fries.” Folks even have their photos taken toasting with the champagne and fries to post inside the restaurant.

Hamad said he is hoping former employees will stop by to give the celebration week a homecoming feel.
