Night hike with Cheeks

Summit Metro Parks wants people to put on Halloween costumes and see nature in disguise.

Families will hike and meet nocturnal animals along a lighted park trail.

The guided hike will run from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Seiberling Nature Realm, 1828 Smith Road, Akron.

At the conclusion of the hike, participants can enjoy a fire and marshmallows.

Cheeks, the park district’s 8-foot chipmunk mascot, will be on hand.

Nature Fest

The Wilderness Center near Wilmot is holding its indoor Nature Fest from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

You will be able to purchase nature arts and crafts. Baked goods will also be available.

Admission is free.

The center is at 9877 Alabama Ave. SW, Sugar Creek Township.

Chuck a pumpkin

The Spicy Lamb Farm outside Peninsula is hosting Punkin’ Chuckin’ fun on Saturday.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the farm at 6550 Akron-Peninsula Road.

Bring one pumpkin for every person in your party as your admission fee.

The farm is at the dead end of Akron-Peninsula Road off Boston Mills Road in Boston Township.

Creepy crawlies — Summit Metro Parks is holding a program on creatures that are creepy, crawly and slimy but not scary, for youngsters and accompanying adults. Halloween hike — The Medina County Park District is staging a Halloween night hike at 7:30 p.m. at the Wolf Creek Environmental Center, 6100 Ridge Road (state Route 94), Sharon Township. Experience nighttime sights and sounds and learn about Halloween animal myths. Dress for the trail and the weather. Costumes are welcome. For all ages. Lantern hikes — You can learn about life on the Underground Railroad for escaped slaves in the 1850s. The Cuyahoga Valley program includes 2-mile lantern hikes and rides on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. The hikes will depart every 30 minutes from 6 to 7:30 p.m. For ages 14 and older. Sand Run hike — Summit Metro Parks is presenting a hike on the Dogwood Trail to look at the nature and history of Sand Run Metro Park. It will run from 2 to 4 p.m. Meet in the Wadsworth Area off Sand Run Parkway in northwest Akron. 330-865-8065 or www.summitmetroparks.org.

Beer train — The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad is staging a beer-tasting train. The Ales on Rails trip will feature seasonal beers. Bird seed sale — Quail Hollow State Park near Hartville is holding its bird seed sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Stock up on seed at the Quail’s Nest Gift Shop and the Carriage House Nature Center. The seed will be loaded into your vehicle. Proceeds will go to the Quail Hollow Volunteer Association. Valley hike — The National Park Service is directing a 6-mile hike on Buckeye Trail in the Cuyahoga Valley. It will run from 9 to 11;30 a.m. Meet at the Ira Trailhead off Riverview Road north of Ira Road in Cuyahoga Falls. The trail is hilly and moderately tough. Hikers who complete at least five ranger-led walks will earn special gifts compliments of the Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

Trail sculpting — Summit Metro Parks is conducting a hike looking at nature’s carpenters from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at Firestone Metro park. Meet in the Tuscarawas Meadows Area off Harrington Road in South Akron. 330-865-8065 or www.summitmetroparks.org.

History hike — The Stark County Park District is holding a hike on the Towpath Trail to learn about the federal Works Progress Administration. Meet at 2 p.m. at Lock 4 Park south of Canal Fulton in Lawrence Township. 330-409-8096.
