Akron piano prodigy to appear on TV

Akron piano sensation Daniel Colaner will appear on Harry, Harry Connick Jr.’s talk show, at 8 a.m. Wednesday on the CW Network, which airs locally on WBNX (Channel 55). He will play Chopin’s Fantasie-Impromptu and the ragtime piece Kitten on the Keys.

Daniel, now 13, captured the hearts of readers and viewers in November with his story about performing at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall after surviving cancer as an infant. The boy, who is home-schooled, also played the organ at St. Patrick’s Cathedral and appeared on Good Morning America live in New York.

Tom Hanks takes on iconic role

It’s a beautiful day in this neighborhood for Tom Hanks, who’ll star as Mister Rogers in the upcoming biopic You Are My Friend.

TriStar Pictures announced Monday it has acquired worldwide rights to the film, to be directed by The Diary of a Teenage Girl filmmaker Marielle Heller.

The film will focus on the friendship between the host of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood and journalist Tom Junod. Junod reluctantly agreed to profile Fred Rogers only to find “his perspective on life transformed.”

Production will begin in September, with a 2019 release expected.

The role will surely add to the America’s Dad image of Hanks, who gave a very Rogers-like opening monologue while hosting Saturday Night Live before the 2016 presidential election, swapping his jacket for a sweater and giving America a pep talk.

Rogers died in 2003 at age 74.

Ed Sheeran thanks Grammy voters

Ed Sheeran, and his cat, would like to thank the Grammy voters.

After skipping Sunday’s ceremony, the singer posted a note of gratitude on his Instagram account and said his cat was celebrating, too. Sheeran won Grammys for best pop solo performance for Shape of You and best pop vocal album.

“Woke up to the news I won two grammys last night. Thank you!” wrote Sheeran, who included a photo of his orange-and-white cat. “This little fluff-ball is doing a bit of a celebratory dance, lots of love to everyone xx.”

His victory for best solo performance wasn’t welcomed by everyone. Sheeran was the only male on the list, defeating stars such as Lady Gaga, Kesha and Pink. Numerous tweeters expressed their disappointment.
