Gorgeous, furry alpacas will be all the rage 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday during the Buckeye Alpaca Show at the Summit County Fairgrounds Arena Complex, 1100 North Ave., Tallmadge. Alpacas will compete for the highest honors at Ohio’s largest alpaca show, which will feature youths guiding their alpacas through performance courses, fleece, fiber arts and skein show competitions and vendors selling fashions and accessories made from alpaca fiber. A scheduling mishap is behind the show’s first Summit County outing. For the last 10 years, the state fairgrounds in Columbus has been its home. Parking and admission is free.
Books, glorious books will be on sale at the Tallmadge branch of the Akron-Summit County Public Library, 90 Community Drive. The preview for the Friends of the Tallmadge Library sale will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday with the sale 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, when the all-day price will be $5 for a bag of books. There will also be a Friends of Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library book sale from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the library at 3512 Darrow Road, Stow.
Creative works by Medina teens are featured through Saturday in the second annual Teen Art Expo in the third-floor gallery space at the Medina County District Library, 210 S. Broadway St. Works by the teens include colored pencil drawings, paintings and photography. The library opens at 9 a.m. and closes at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, 6 p.m. Friday and 5 p.m. Saturday.
Celebrate the 50th anniversary of the event that inspired Alice’s Restaurant with legendary folk musician Arlo Guthrie, who will perform the more than 18-minute musical monologue and other works at E.J. Thomas Hall, 198 Hill St., University of Akron. Arlo and company will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday and 7 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $35, $15 for UA students. Buy tickets at the E.J.
