Our Souls at Night

Jane Fonda and Robert Redford reunite for this drama about the relationship that develops between widowed neighbors. It debuts Friday on Netflix.

Book-to-screen: Based on the novel by Kent Haruf, the film was directed by Ritesh Batra (The Lunchbox).

Not slowing down: Fonda, 79, and Redford, 81, have done just about everything in cinema, but still have the itch to make movies. They have 10 Oscar nominations between them. Fonda has won twice for best actress (Klute, Coming Home), and Redford won the best director statue for Ordinary People.

Fourth Collaboration: The duo has teamed on three previous films, The Chase, the crime drama starring Marlon Brando in 1966; the Neil Simon comedy Barefoot in the Park in 1967 (yes, it’s been 50 years!); and The Electric Horseman in 1979.
