Adrift

The new action-adventure, woman-against-nature film hits theaters nationwide Friday.

Hurricane hazard: Crossing 4,000 miles of ocean in a sailboat can be a chore. But things got super ugly for Tami Oldham in 1983 when she and her fiance battled a category 4 hurricane in the Pacific. Her book, Red Sky Mourning, is the basis for the film.

Deep water: Shailene Woodley plays Oldham, and she paid her nautical dues on the high seas as the film shot on the open ocean off the coast of Fiji.

Woodley power: Woodley, 26, made a splash playing George Clooney’s daughter in The Descendants in 2011, and has gone on to impress as Tris in the Divergent series, and as the sick but smitten Hazel in The Fault in Our Stars.
