Members wanted to showcase Ohio breweries and they wanted to shine a light on some of the state’s smaller operations.

The second annual Rubber City Beer Fest returns 3 to 7 p.m. March 19 to Lock 3 Park in downtown Akron.
The event, held indoors and in conjunction with the club’s Wizard of SAAZ competition, will showcase more than 20 local breweries, ranging from the well-known Great Lakes, Thirsty Dog, Fat Head’s and Hoppin’ Frog to the places that are still making a name for themselves such as JAFB Wooster, R. Shea, Little Fish and Phoenix.
“We’re trying to keep it interesting and fresh,” organizer Larry Reuter said.

Speaking of beer festivals, the Ohio Craft Brewers Association will host the 10th annual Winter Warmer Fest from 2 to 6 p.m. March 5 at Windows on the River, 2000 Sycamore St., Cleveland.
The event, which serves as a fundraiser for the association will showcase more than 40 Ohio breweries and will feature live music and food.
General admission tickets are $45 in advance or $55 at the door. VIP tickets are $85 and include early entry at 1 p.m., a T-shirt, swag bag and special beer tastings.

Thirsty Dog Brewing Co., 529 Grant St., Akron, will host a celebration of barrel-aged beers from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
The brewery will offer about 20 barrel-aged concoctions ranging from 12 Dogs of Christmas to Bernese Barley Wine to Orthus to Nuevo Mexican Lager.
“The brewers are always playing with things and creating, and they wanted to share the fun stuff we do,” co-owner John Najeway said.
The event is free to attend. Eight-ounce snifters will start at $9, with samples starting at $3. There also will be complementary food, including Siberian Night cheese.
Fat Head’s dinner
The Lodge at Geneva-on-the-Lake, 4888 N. Broadway, Geneva-on-the-Lake, will host a four-course beer dinner with Fat Head’s Brewery at 6:30 p.m. March 18.
The evening will start with a reception and guided tasting of Bumble Berry and Shakedown Stout.
The dinner will feature Sunshine Daydream paired with cheese and crackers; Head Hunter with braised beef potato skins; Sorcerer with pork chop; and Goggle Fogger with bananas foster bread pudding.
A package that includes the tasting, dinner, live entertainment, an overnight stay and breakfast for two the next day begins at $225 per couple. The event only is $115 per couple.
