Some local Christians will spend the final night of the year together in worship, reflecting on the events of the past and looking ahead to the future.

The gatherings of the Christian faithful for prayer and watchful expectation on New Year’s Eve are traditionally known as Watch Night services. The services, which are usually upbeat, typically begin from 7 to 11 p.m. and end shortly after midnight and offer a time for worshippers to praise God for bringing them safely through another year and to pray for guidance in the new year.

Here are a few local Watch Night services:

Arlington Church of God — 539 S. Arlington St., Akron. 10:30 p.m.

Mountain of the Lord Fellowship — 1477 Copley Road, Akron. 7 p.m.

Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church — 844 Garth Ave., Akron. 10:30 p.m.

The House of the Lord — 1650 Diagonal Road, Akron. 10 p.m.
