People Helping People is a list of charitable causes in our area that need donations or volunteers. The Beacon Journal has not investigated these causes, so donors should verify their worthiness and the tax-deductibility of contributions.

Battered Women’s Shelter, 974 E. Market St., Akron, OH 44305, provides safety, support, court services, advocacy and education to survivors recovering from domestic violence.
It is seeking:
• Adopt-A-Shelter program donors to contribute supplies for its shelters.
• Adopt-A-Family donors to buy Christmas gifts for families.
• Donations of $25 gift cards to grocery stores and gas stations.
Donations may be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 12 or 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 17 and 18.

Young Black Professionals Coalition is raising money and collecting food for food pantries and shelters through its Strikes 4 Hunger Charity Bowling Outing Wednesday at Riviera Lanes, 20 S. Miller Road, Fairlawn.
A Youth Bowl for ages 5 to 18 is 5 to 8 p.m. Admission is $10, $7 with five or more canned goods. An Adult Bowl starts at 9 p.m. Admission is $20, or $15 with 10 or more canned goods. Shoe rental and unlimited bowling included.
