Rain didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of more than 1,000 people at Vintage Canton on Thursday evening. Julie Gill chaired the event on behalf of the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce, where guests enjoyed food and drink from area vendors and music by Ryan Humbert.

“This is one of the best events of the year,” said Canton Mayor Tom Bernabei, while sharing crab cakes with his wife, Bebe, Dr. Jim Johns, his wife, Donna, and Barbara Abbott.

Larry Suler and Zach Cobb of Lobster Louie’s kept busy making the crab cakes and shrimp and scallop kabobs enjoyed by Michael Ellis, Jeff and Lynn Kelly and Scotty Bourquin and Jamie Huth.

“This is a great night for soup,” Phil Warner told his wife, Jenny, as they tried shrimp enchilada soup.

Brett Urian invited guests to summer concerts at his Blue Barn Winery and Vineyard, located in a restored Civil War-era barn just south of Wooster. Warner credited Urian’s wife, Marcia, as the winemaker.

Jeremiah Geisinger and his brother, Marc, of McAlpine Meadery, looked spiffy in their kilts.

“We always wear them to wine events,” Geisinger explained.

Pam Upperman and Melissa Hoch sampled wine from Grapes in a Glass, while Sloane Facemyer, Dori Hess, Chuck Espenschied and his daughter Stacy found a cozy table under an umbrella. Nancy Reynolds enjoyed the event with her daughter, Cinda Keener, and granddaughter Sarah, Jeff and Heather Fisher, Janet Deierling and Lisa Yoder.

Rick and LeeAnn Chievitz of Biery Cheese discussed varieties of cheese with Jim and Maria Speakman. Monica Bowe of George’s Lounge served burgers prepared by chef Keith Kauffman. Steve Yerkey and Billy Wagner recommended Bender’s crab cakes and sea scallops served on an Asian somen noodle salad, also enjoyed by Collyn Floyd and Stephanie Werren.

Tom Finnie of Heidelberg Distributors recommended Federalist Bourbon Barrel Zinfandel to Eric Smer and Christian Schaffner; Kathy Witts and her daughter, Katie Jo, liked the sparkling rosé from Esbers. Tony Ly offered samples from Basil Asian Bistro to Tammy Leaver, Ken and Vickie Huot, Brian and Meredith Bailey and Brian and Julie Mertes.

Dessert included Chocolates by Erin served by Fran Wolski, and cookies and lemon bars from Brookside Country Club compliments of Gail Myers and Connie Gallion.
