Kids in Summit County, Ohio get ready to have a fun-filled all day adventure on Saturday, August 19th from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the John S. Knight Center in Downtown Akron. It is the eighth annual SUMMIT FOR KIDS.

“Summit for Kids focuses on early childhood education, health and wellness and gets our kids ready for the school year,” said Executive Shapiro. “We are so honored to have the community join in and provide medical and dental services, along with fun activities and the chance to meet Spider-Man!”

The Summit for Kids Expo is open to the public and is free of charge. The expo will be a fun filled day for the entire family and will include free admission, parking, activities, giveaways, back to school physicals, book bags with school supplies, dental van (checkups and x-rays provided by Ronald McDonald Charities), Akron Children’s Medical Corridor (for children’s checkups), child safety services, over 100 early childhood booths, and entertainment such as Spider-Man, Mister Roger’s Neighborhood’s Daniel Tiger from PBS and Minion look-alikes. Goodwill Industries will, once again, provide a “Kids Fashion Show.” This year, the kickoff band is the Coventry High School Marching Band.

“Summit for Kids is an exceptional event,” said Summit County Juvenile Court Judge Linda Teodosio. “It not only provides school readiness and educational tools for children, but also offers families an exciting opportunity to spend quality time together.”

For the eighth year, PNC is the event’s Title Sponsor. And this year, United Way of Summit County donated $15,000 to Summit for Kids for backpacks for the kids in honor of the late County Executive Russ Pry.

“This annual family-focused experience clearly demonstrates one of the major strengths of our community – the incredible spirit of cooperation and partnerships focused on the goal of making life better for the residents of Summit County,” said Summit County Children’s Services Executive Director Julie Barnes. “These successful collaborations provide the foundation for Summit County Children Services to succeed in our important work of building families and building futures.”
