An Acme Fresh Market store in Norton was evacuated early today after workers found a suspicious package on a shelf, according to Norton Police Chief Thad Hete.

The package was a tube capped at both ends and covered in electrical tape, he said.

It was discovered by a store employee in the soft-drink aisle, he said.

Norton police and the Summit County Bomb Squad responded shortly after midnight. Seven workers were evacuated from the then-closed store, Hete said.

A robot was sent into the building, and officers later retrieved the tube, which was empty, at about 2 a.m.

The store opened for business as usual later Tuesday morning.
