One adult and two teens suspected in a string of crimes are in Akron police custody after a FedEx driver posted a video of them Tuesday, Akron police said Sunday.

The driver, Caleb Layer, said he started filming the suspects after he witnessed them steal a package from a porch in Firestone Park, following them for nearly 20 minutes.

Layer’s video never shows the teens doing anything illegal, but it gained hundreds of thousands of views after a few days, leading other Firestone Park residents to report several other crimes that had taken place in the area.

The teens may be connected to a list of crimes in the area, including a robbery of a man at the Walgreens store on South Arlington Street in June and the theft of a bike from an 89-year-old Firestone Park man earlier this month, police said.

The mother of one of the teens called police Thursday after seeing the FedEx driver’s video, Akron Police Lt. Rick Edwards said.

One of the juvenile suspects had been in custody since Friday evening.

The adult suspect will be tried in Summit County Court of Common Pleas. No other information, including identification or when the other suspects were taken into custody, was available Sunday night.
