The John R. Buchtel Community Learning Center in Akron was closed Wednesday because of a nearby house fire.

The fire began shortly before 7 a.m. in the 1000 block of Copley Road. Smoke from the fire was going into the heating, ventilating and air conditioning unit at the school so the building was closed for the day as a precaution.

The school, which has 818 students, is expected to reopen Thursday.

Fire officials also had closed Copley Road and Glendora Avenue because of the blaze.

Five adults were in the house at the time of the fire and one was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, but no one was taken to the hospital, a fire spokesman said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
