A 24-year-old Akron man was sentenced to eight years in prison Monday for providing drugs to a woman who died after taking them.

Griffin pleaded guilty Monday in Summit County Common Pleas Court to involuntary manslaughter, corrupting another with drugs and trafficking drugs. Judge Amy Corrigall Jones immediately sentenced him to eight years in prison.

Prosecutors say Griffin sold drugs that contained carfentanil to the victim and her friend on Jan. 12, 2016. They immediately took the drugs in their car. The victim died, while her friend overdosed but was revived, according to the Summit County Prosecutor’s Office.
