Akron police are investigating a multiple-vehicle crash at 7:20 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of South Hawkins Avenue and Thurston Street.

The driver of a Jeep Compass was going southbound on South Hawkins Avenue when he drove left of center, sideswiping a Chevrolet Malibu. The Jeep continued south on Hawkins and struck a GMC Savana head-on. The Savana rotated to the right and was hit by a Ford Fusion.

The driver of the Jeep Compass, a 58-year-old Akron man, was transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General with serious injuries.

The driver of the Chevrolet Malibu, a 42-year-old Akron man, was treated and released on the scene.

The driver of the GMC Savana, a 34-year-old woman from Akron, was transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General. Her three passengers, an 18-year-old man, a 20-year-old woman and a 49-year-old man, were taken to area hospitals for injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.

The driver of the Ford Fusion, a 19-year-old Akron woman, was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The accident remains under investigation. Alcohol appears to be a factor, police say.
