Akron police were looking for a 21-year-old woman who is charged in an assault Monday that left her mother with a broken arm in Northwest Akron.

Courtney Marie Magrell, who lives on East North Street in Akron, faces felonious assault, domestic violence and other charges.

A 40-year-old woman told police that she was sitting in a U-Haul truck Monday about 4 p.m. Monday in the 1500 block of Kingsley Avenue near Firestone High School when her daughter, Magrell, approached, grabbed her by the clothing and yanked her from the truck.

Police said Magrell hit her mother, knocking her to the ground and then punched her in the head and ribs. When Magrell started to kick her mother in the face, her mother used her arm to block the blows, officials said.

After the kicks broke her mother’s arm, Magrell shattered her mother’s mobile phone, grabbed her mom’s identification and fled before police arrived, authorities said.

Magrell’s mom was transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General for treatment of a broken arm, police said.
