Jerry Dwayne Alford turned himself in to authorities Friday, a day after Akron police asked for the public’s help in finding him.

Alford, 35, of Crosby Street, faces murder charges in the Nov. 16 slaying of Dereke Alexander, 57.

Alexander, who lived on Hardesty Boulevard, was found shot multiple times behind a West Market Street convenience store in West Hill.

Police have not said what may have led to the violence or whether Alford and Alexander knew one another.
