Arson units are investigating two house fires that occurred Saturday night.

Akron firefighters responded to the first fire in the 1800 block of Marks Avenue at about 9:30 p.m., according to the fire department.

The caller stated the fire may have been arson and that the flames from the home were hitting the house next door.

Firefighters arrived to a fully involved house fire with live electrical wires down.

The fire was under control at about 10 p.m. No one was home at the time, and no one was injured.

About 6 miles away in the 500 block of Flora Avenue in the Kenmore neighborhood, firefighters responded to another fully involved house fire with electrical wires down at about 10:20 p.m.

Akron police were the first on scene and reported flames 20 feet high.

No one was reported to be in the house, and no one was injured.

The fire department called its highway maintenance team to barricade the area, which is near Interstate 277.

The causes of both fires are listed as “suspicious,” and arson units were called to investigate both.

Lt. Sierjie Lash said there is not enough evidence to show that the fires are connected at this time.
