A Barberton man attempted to hang himself from the front of his home during a standoff with police Thursday night.

Authorities said officers were called to a house of Norwood Street about 9 p.m. for a report of a fight involving a knife. As officers arrived, the 45-year-old suspect barricaded himself inside of the home.

While officers were awaiting for the SWAT team to arrive, the man opened an upstairs window, climbed out and attempted to hang himself, according to a Barberton police report.

Officers rushed the home and were able to save the suspect. He is being treated at an area hospital.

Police said charges are pending.
