BATH TWP.: During the trustees’ meeting on Dec. 17, Bath Park Board member Pam Reitz announced the formation of the Bath Steeplechase Committee, which, in collaboration with the Summit Athletic Running Club, will plan and host the first-ever Bath steeplechase event.

According to Reitz, the event is planned as an 8K steeplechase run and a 2K family fun run to take place at noon on Nov. 9. The steeplechase run will begin at the Bath Community Activity Center and incorporate the scenic cross-country terrain of the Bath Nature Preserve.

The race will be limited to the first 400 runners for the first year, said Reitz.

“Our goal is to make this a first-class run with a unique flavor,” said Reitz, adding that the fee for participation in the race is yet to be determined.

Funds raised from the event will be dedicated to future park improvements, events or educational activities based on an evaluation of those projects by the Park Board and the township trustees.

Sponsors, volunteers and spectators will be solicited to support this event, said Reitz. She urges those interested to check out an under-construction website at www.BathSteeplechase8K.com and volunteer for the Bath Steeplechase committee.
