Beaver facts

Weight: 30 to 70 pounds.

Body length: 25 to 30 inches. Tail adds 9 to 10 inches.

Life expectancy: Nine to 11 years.

Movement: Stays close to home and food supply.

Feeding period: Mostly at night.

Typical foods: Bark and twigs of aspen, poplar, birch, willow, maple, cottonwood and alder, plus aquatic and marsh plants.

Mating: Monogamous.

Breeding period: January to February.

Litters: One per year in late spring, typically four kits. Young live with parents for up to two years.

Breeding age: 2.5 years.
