The Coventry Board of Education has called a special meeting for 7 p.m. tonight to discuss implementing “Blizzard Bags” as a way to make up three used calamity days.
Blizzard Bags are a state-approved way of utilizing the Internet for student instruction when school buildings are closed.
Districts may take up to five calamity days per school year for such circumstances as weather emergencies, power failures or transportation issues. Most area school systems already have exceeded that number because of January’s harsh weather, and several plan to use the Blizzard Bags program to make up three (the maximum allowed) of the days.
The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Lakeview Administrative Offices, 2910 S. Main St.
