AURORA: A Northeast Ohio man has launched a campaign to raise $20 million to help buy the former Geauga Lake amusement park property.

Brian Roote created a GoFundMe campaign last week, writing that the park is wasting away and “this seems like a sin.”

“You have the power to bring back one of your most sacred childhood memories for future generations to come; because this time, GEAUGA LAKE IS HERE TO STAY!” he wrote on the page.

As of Wednesday morning, he had raised only $469 toward his goal.

The overall construction project would cost $350 million, with $100 million dedicated to rehabbing the property and another $250 million to build attractions, according to Roote.

Cedar Fair closed Geauga Lake in 2007.
