TOLEDO: A judge has dismissed murder charges against one of two men accused of killing a young couple found in a suburban Toledo home with plastic bags over their heads and their hands bound with tape.
Lucas County Common Pleas Judge James Bates ruled Thursday to dismiss the charges against 23-year-old Cameo Pettaway, citing there was not enough evidence linking him to the January 2011 deaths of 21-year-old Johnny Clarke and 20-year-old Lisa Straub.
Authorities have said Clarke and Straub were killed in a robbery gone awry.
Another man, 24-year-old Samuel Todd Williams, has also been charged in the couple’s deaths. Jurors in a separate courtroom were deliberating his trial Thursday. He faces the death penalty if convicted.
Attorneys for both Pettaway and Williams did not immediately return messages Thursday.
