CLEVELAND: Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson has drawn a single challenger in his upcoming re-election bid.
Businessman Ken Lanci was only other candidate to submit petitions to the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections by Thursday’s deadline. That means there will be no primary election in the mayoral race.
The two top vote-getters in the nonpartisan primary race typically face off in the November general election. But since only Jackson and Lanci have filed, there will be no mayoral contest in the September primary.
General election day is Nov. 5. Jackson and Lanci are both Democrats.
The Plain Dealer reports that four would-be candidates picked up petitions for the mayoral race, but did not file them by the deadline. Possible write-in candidates still have until Monday to file.
