A contractor was convicted Friday of stealing from an elderly Copley Township couple.
A Summit County jury found Allan Vertucci, 41, of Green, guilty of theft from a person in a protected class, a second-degree felony.
Vertucci, a self-employed contractor and owner of Allan Vertucci Construction, was hired by the couple in 2012 to replace the roof and windows of their Copley Township home. The couple later paid him to repair the septic system, waterproof the basement and repair other items in their home. The couple gave Vertucci more than $80,000 over two years for the work, according to a news release from the Summit County Prosecutorís Office.
Investigators found Vertucci didnít complete all of the work and what he did was substandard. He also removed items from the home, including a bathtub and doors.
The Summit County Health Department found the septic system was a health-code violation as a result of Vertucciís work. Investigators found a puddle containing human waste in the homeís front yard, according to the news release.
Vertucci will be sentenced at 9 a.m. March 16 by Summit County Common Pleas Judge Mary Margaret Rowlands.
