The Cuyahoga Valley National Park is scheduled to conduct a prescribed fire today  at 1 p.m. in the park zone one mile south of Interstate 80 in Peninsula, Falls News Press reports.

National Park Service spokeswoman said traffic will be maintained and the burn is expected to take less than a day. If necessary, Boston Mills Road could potentially close.

The burn will help maintain the landscape of the Cuyahoga Valley, along with reduce brush, release nutrients into the soil and reduce the ability of a wildfire to spread.

Smoke will be limited by the park personnel, but drivers are advised to turn on headlights and reduce speed in smoky areas. The park also suggests that nearby residents close doors and windows, stay inside if smoke drifts or if residents have respiratory problems.
