The FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby has a new logo for the race’s 75th running.

Race organizers are also asking fans to share race memories.

The new logo bears the name of the race’s new title sponsor FirstEnergy Corp. and a large 75 to mark its anniversary.

“The commemorative logo will be used during the 2012 racing season as a tribute to the proud 75-year history of the Soap Box Derby program,” said Joe Mazur, derby president and chief executive.

The derby is also asking the public to share their favorite memories from their perspectives as racers or spectators. They may be sent to Soap Box Derby Memories, P.O. Box 7225, Akron, OH 44306 or by email to Derbymemories@aol.com.

The derby began in Dayton in 1934 and moved to Akron the next year. Racing was skipped for four years during World War II.

Entries will be displayed on the derby’s website and in the Race Week publication.

More than 500 racers from the United States, Canada, Japan, New Zealand and Germany are expected to participate in this year’s July 21 event.
