The Akron Education Association voted Sunday night to approve a new three-year contract with Akron Public Schools, the school district said Monday.

The union represents about 2,000 teachers.

A union representative could not immediately be reached for comment.

The school board will vote at its next regular meeting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The new contract, if itís approved, will be effective retroactively from July 1, 2016, and continue through June 30, 2019. The previous contract was effective July 1, 2013, through June 30, 2016.
