ALLENTOWN, Pa.: A Pennsylvania anesthesiologist has pleaded guilty in Ohio to a felony assault charge in the crowbar attack on his daughterís estranged husband, who also is a doctor.
In exchange for Dr. Georges Bensimhonís plea on Wednesday, the Cuyahoga County prosecutorís office dropped an attempted murder charge against the 66-year-old Allentown doctor.
He was charged in the Sept. 4 attack of 39-year-old neurosurgeon Seth Hoffer outside Hofferís Cleveland Heights home. The victim was clubbed with a crowbar but managed to fight back, pin his attacker and call for help.
Bensimhon will remain free on bail until his sentencing June 24. He faces up to eight years in prison and a $15,000 fine.
Defense attorney Larry Zukerman could not immediately be reached for comment on his clientís plea deal.
