MEDINA: A Wayne County man has been charged with two counts of aggravated vehicular assault following a head-on crash Friday morning on state Route 57 in Montville Township.

Michael J. Hostetler, 23, of Fredericksburg appeared Monday in Medina Municipal Court. Bond was set at $25,000, or 10 percent surety, on each count.

Hostetler, who was driving a pickup, is accused of passing a vehicle on a hill over a double yellow line while headed northbound around 5:51 a.m.

As that vehicle was being passed, a southbound Chevrolet Prizm veered off the roadway slightly apparently to avoid hitting the truck, re-entered the roadway and then collided head-on with the Kia Forte when re-entering the road, Montville police said.

The two female drivers — a 23-year-old from Rittman and a 21-year-old from Medina — were taken to area hospitals. Police didn’t know the condition of either victim Monday but said that neither appeared to have life-threatening injuries.

The pickup didn’t stop.

The vehicle was later located at a construction site in Medina.

Montville police are looking for another potential witness to the accident who was driving a black sport utility vehicle or crossover. The motorist wasn’t involved in the accident but may have seen what happened, police said.

The driver can call Sgt. Chris LaFond at 330-661-0135.
