A former Buchtel High School teacher is charged with conducting a three-year sexual relationship with a Buchtel high school student that resulted in a child, Beacon Journal news partner News 5 Cleveland reported Monday.

Laura Lynn Cross, 36, is accused of engaging in a sexual relationship with the teen beginning in August, 2013 and ending last September. She remains in the Summit County Jail charged with the counts of sexual battery, according to News 5 Cleveland.

Charges were filed this month after it was revealed Cross had given birth to the teen’s son in December 2015.

On Monday, News 5 obtained two police reports that reveal additional details of the alleged affair.

The teen’s mother filed a complaint with Akron police in June 2015 about the alleged affair. She also contacted Summit County Juvenile prosecutors and police in Tallmadge, where her son was living with Cross. Tallmadge Police Chief Ron Williams said his department investigated but concluded “there was not enough evidence to bring charges.”

Meanwhile, Summit County Children Services would not confirm whether they were contacted.

A spokesperson for Akron Public Schools says it began investigating the case Friday following the News 5 report and concluded Monday that no one at the school has a record of a complaint or meeting with school officials about the allegations.
