COLUMBUS: Federal investigators say a central Ohio man charged with producing and distributing child pornography is the latest addition to a smartphone law enforcement app meant to locate child sex predators.

A criminal complaint earlier this month charged Jeremiah Malfroid with producing, receiving, distributing and possessing child pornography.

The complaint says Franklin County child porn investigators found almost 700 sexually explicit videos of minors on Malfroid’s laptop.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement says five images show the 33-year-old Malfroid, a fugitive believed to be in California, sexually abusing a minor.

Nathan Emery, Homeland Security Investigations agent in charge in Columbus, said Wednesday that ICE’s Operation Predator App makes it harder for child predators to hide.

The free app provides alerts on wanted predators and the ability to anonymously report tips.
