Brimfield Twp.: Brimfield Police took an unusual suspect into custody Friday: a 3-foot alligator.

The reptile surprised a Brimfield resident when she opened her son’s closet, the police department reported on its Facebook page. The gator was “jumping and hissing and gave mom a big startle,” Police Chief David Oliver wrote.

State game officials were summoned, but not before three officers wrestled the creature into submission. Oliver reported Officer Russell Diehl was “scared it was going to escape and eat me” during the ride to headquarters.

More details about the incident, including why the alligator was in the closet, were not available from the police department.
