Mother Nature has again foiled plans for grandparents and grandchildren to race each other at Akron’s Derby Downs.

The city canceled the Grand Derby, which was rescheduled for Thursday because of a previous bad-weather day.

With the second cancelation, the city wasn’t able to get a new date because of the many events already planned at Derby Downs in July.

The city will send refunds to the approximately 100 people who already paid.

The event will be brought back next year, weather permitting, and will be “bigger and better” than in previous years, said Sally Nyburg, Akron’s active-adult coordinator.
