Akron police responding to reports of gunfire arrested a man on drug charges.

Officers also seized $6,000, a pistol and 200 grams of crack cocaine.

Police were called to the 1300 block of Orlando Avenue just before midnight Tuesday after hearing reports of gunfire. Once on scene, officers stopped a man whom they said tried to run away. The man had marijuana in his pants pockets.

At the same time, police noticed a man kicking shell casings in the driveway in an effort to hide them. Police then searched the residence, where they found the drugs, money and firearm.

David Cawthon, 42, was arrested on charges of possession of cocaine, trafficking, obstructing official business, child endangering and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Also arrested was Dominic Gray, 22. He was charged with obstructing official business, domestic violence and disorderly conduct.
