JACKSON TWP: The Board of Trustees officially hired Mark H. Brink as the police department's new major during its meeting on Thursday at Township Hall.

Maj. Brink will officially begin his new position with the township on Monday, earning $84,000 a year. He will also have to complete a one-year probationary period.

Brink, 50, has been with the Lawrence Township Police Department since 1991, including his most recent role as police chief since 2005.

Brink has also been a bailiff for the Massillon Municipal Court, and working at the Barberton Rescue Mission. He is a member of the Stark County Police Chief's Association and is a certified forensic counselor and chemical dependency counselor.

Trustee President James Walters commented on the hiring saying that the board feels that Brink's experience in a township police department gave him an edge.
