FREMONT, OHIO: A panel of three retired judges has decided that a northern Ohio sheriff should be suspended while facing charges alleging he stole medications from prescription drug disposal drop boxes.
The Sandusky County sheriff also is accused of deceiving doctors into giving him painkillers and misusing department funds.
Sheriff Kyle Overmyer has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
Overmyer has two weeks to appeal the proposed suspension before it takes effect. His attorney says they havenít made a decision yet.
Overmyer faces six felony charges in a 43-count indictment released last month.
Overmyerís current term expires at the end of the year, and he is running for re-election. He has previously suggested that the investigation was politically motivated.
