A Kent man was arraigned on Tuesday for the alleged rape of a 13-year-old on Sunday.
Robert A. Ashworth, 33, of West Hall Street, was jailed after failing to secure a $250,000 bond on Tuesday. The conditions of Ashworth’s release included that he not make contact with the alleged victim.
Following the arraignment, the court granted the Kent Police Department the right to obtain Ashworth’s DNA.
A preliminary hearing is set for Friday at 9:30 a.m. in front of Portage County Municipal Court Judge Barabara Oswick.
According to a complaint filed with the Portage County Municipal Court, Ashworth allegedly subdued the minor “by administering any drug, intoxicant or controlled substance.”
The document also indicates that the victim’s mother is not related to, or in a relationship with Ashworth.
Rape is a first-degree felony under Ohio law carrying a maximum sentence of 11 years. If the assailant uses force, threats or a controlled substance to subdue the victim, then the sentence is no less than 5 years.
