KENT: Kent police have been awarded a $6,750 Justice Assistance Grant to help fund bike and foot patrols in the downtown area this spring and summer.

“As the downtown redevelopment progressed, we projected that we will start seeing increased calls for service there,” Chief Michelle Lee said.

“We want to be proactive in making sure downtown remains a safe destination for our residents and the many new visitors now coming to Kent,” she said.

The Kent Police Department has 15 officers trained to patrol on the department’s fleet of five mountain bikes.
